Give Me One Good Reason to Fast (How About Six?): Discovering the Purposes of Fasting

“If you say, I will fast when God lays it on me, you never will. You are too cold and indifferent. Take the yoke upon you.”----D.L. Moody

Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD. Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

(Joel 1:14-15 NKJV).  

Why is fasting important to the Christian? What purpose does it have in our life? What do we hope happens when we fast? Perhaps you are looking for one good reason that you should participate in this discipline. Actually in this chapter, we will give six different purposes for fasting as revealed in scripture. This will not nor is it intended to be an exhaustive list. There are many purposes for fasting beyond the ones we will study. These have been chosen because they will lead usinto studying some of the biblical examples, which have brought purpose to my fasting over the years. So, get your Bible and get ready to pursue fasting with purpose.

From? Ground Zero? to the Western Wall
